About Mrs. O’Brien

Mrs. O’Brien acquired her Secondary Education Licensure (grades 6-12) and Master of Education (M.Ed) in Curriculum and Instruction from the Graduate School of Education at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.      Prior to this, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English (BA) from George Mason University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. During a summer session as an undergrad, she was thrilled to study Irish literature and culture at University College Cork in Cork, Ireland.
This is her seventh year teaching middle school language arts. Her favorite things to do when not teaching include: photography; scrapbooking; decorating for every holiday; dining out (especially if it’s SweetWater Tavern, Blue Ridge Grill, or Red Robin); reading realistic fiction, memoirs, short story collections, and quality picture books; “Googling” answers to billions of life’s questions (evaluating the sources, too); journaling; going to the movies; and most importantly, spending time with her husband and young son.

Hi! I’m Mrs. O’Brien (on the left). Here is pic of me with a wonderful colleague.                       Ms. Haseltine (right) also teaches Language Arts at ERMS. This year, we share one class section of students; I teach them during Block 2 for their Reading Workshop and Ms. Haseltine leads the same students during Block 7 for their Writing Workshop. How cool is that?!

I loved the first book of Harry Potter! I FINALLY completed it because of my teacher, Mrs. O’Brien. She is the best English teacher because she pushed me to put in time to read that book. I am so glad she did that, and I can finally move on to the second book, Chamber of Secrets. Thank you once again Mrs. O’Brien! 🙂
